What’s Stopping You from Starting That Business? Done your market research? Business plan done and dusted? So how come you haven’t taken the plunge? I’ve known a number of would-be business owners who develop their idea in their spare time, keeping on the day job to pay the bills. This is fine so long as you are progressing towards the day when you’ll launch your business full time. Otherwise you have the worst of both worlds. You can’t generate or accept enough work to make the business financially viable because you don’t have the time. You can’t throw yourself into your paid job because your mind is on the business.
Are your ‘reasons’ just excuses ?‘When there’s enough in the bank, when I’ve built up a large enough mailing list, when my employer has hired a replacement'
Make a list of what you need to put in place Challenge those excuses Find new allies My book ‘How to Stop Flogging a Dead Horse –The Business Owner’s Guide to Creating Happy Endings’ will help you let go and get started!

Summer is often a quieter time for presenters but at the moment, I'm still very busy. However it will be business and pleasure at the end of June, combining a speaking engagement with a visit to good friends and associates in Kirkby Lonsdale. Julie and John, who feature in my book, run a cheese shop there. You'll find a link to their attractive website in the 'Sites to Explore' section below. Whether you're working or playing (hopefully both), have a great summer.
Firework display
Research shows that the people most satisfied and motivated by their work are in careers which reflect who they really are. I know this applies to many of you who read Momentum. If, though, you're looking to make a career change, I'm bringing a new service to WORDS in ACTION. I'm now licensed as a Firework Career Coach. The Firework Career Coaching programme provides a creative and in- depth way to EXLORE your potential, DREAM to create new possibilities and DISCOVER the way ahead for you.
It fits well with my theme in 'How to Stop Flogging a Dead Horse', particularly the sections on creating a vision for the future. You can book for the entire series or opt for a version tailored to where you are in your search for the right career path. If this lights your touch paper, give me a call on +44 01700 500489

Plug for 'Gulp!'
'Gulp!' is Gabriella Goddard's 7 -day crash course to master fear and break through any challenge. I can heartily recommend it. Published by Penguin, it's creative, comprehensive and motivating. 7 -days? Yes, it's do-able AND you can choose to follow the course over a longer period if it's a great big 'gulp'!
A word about why I'm plugging 'Gulp!' After all I've got my own book to promote haven't I? The coaching community is a generous one and fosters the notion of co-operation rather than competition. Gabriella and I brought our books out at roughly the same time and so agreed to send each other a copy. I'm thrilled to be able to quote Gabriella: 'How to Stop Flogging a Dead Horse prompted me to regroup and refocus' - a great compliment from an internationally experienced marketer and an accomplished author.
